Being asked to do something I don’t have permission to do leaves me feeling somewhat frustrated.
I can reply to questions at least, but I am limited to two links per answer so the answer I gave to the question above is less complete than I would have liked it to be. This experience is somewhat frustrating as well.
Thanks for setting up this platform. It’s much appreciated. Please do what you can to improve the experience for new users who want to help. Thank you.
Sorry to pile on, but I just encountered another poor user experience when attempting to contribute content to this site. I tried to answer a question but my post was sent to a moderation queue. Here’s a screenshot:
I’m fairly motivated to continue to contribute to the effort of developing and staging Q&A material but I can imagine that many new users on this Discourse installation would be frustrated by the things I’ve posted on this thread so far. I’m not sure what the solution is for new users. I’m just trying to provide some perspective of the new user experience.
Thanks as always for your great insights! Our method thus far has been to grant higher trust levels and moderator privileges to any participants that ask, but based on your experiences, I am going to find a way to do this in an automated fashion to avoid losing people! Thanks again!
Great, you’re exactly right that my concern is that we will lose people. They’ll get frustrated and abandon the effort of developing and staging Q&A material.
I just hit a snag with this. @izahn and I had lunch with Austin from Harvard FAS Research Computing yesterday and whom I encouraged to join this site. I just tried to make @izahn an admin but I got this error (and I get the same error when trying to make him a moderator):
Cool, thanks for the help with that! Bumping to TL 4 seems a better approach anyway so let’s do that for now while we look into the moderator/admin limit.
