I want to add a category for my site to Ask Cyberinfrastructure. How do I do it?
Basic Instructions to Create a Locale on Ask.CI
1. Name your Locale
If you look on the categories page this is where your site will have a link. Specifically, you want to choose a category name that completely describes your site. For example, instead of “SRCC” or “Stanford RC” the group at Stanford uses “Stanford Research Computing” and this renders to the slug “stanford-research-computing.”
2. Choose a Logo
An Ask.CI site admin will need to upload the logo to the site. Generally, you want to choose a long and flat logo that includes the name of the group (in some respect) along with an image. For example, the Stanford logo is:
Once you have decided on a name and a logo, you can email us with this information and we will set up an unpublished category where you can do step 3.
3. Write at least 5 seed questions, 3 with answers.
These can be as simple as "How do I get an account on the cluster at [YOUR INSTITUTION]?
We recommend that you have multiple authors post the seed questions so that your users are not intimidated to post a question as well.
4. Assign at least one moderator
The moderator will monitor your locale to ensure that questions get answered in a timely manner, and participate in our monthly moderators’ call, which runs for no more than one hour on the third Friday of every month at noon ET, 11 am CT, 10 am MT, 9 am PT.
5. Publish your locale!
Once you have completed steps 1-4, contact us and we will publish your Locale and add your moderator to the calendar invite for the monthly meeting!
