Symbol lookup error when using launcher to submit & run the job in Europa

Hey everyone! I have a question about the error info in my running job.

I used TACC/launcher to submit my job. However, in the Parametric.job_id.err file, I notice that there are some errors generated repeatedly. I cannot understand what they mean and I am not sure if these errors will have negative impact on my job. I tried to google before but I am still confused why I received them when using slurm and launcher. I really appreciate if anyone can help me on this one.

Yile and I sync’d up offline and resolved this issue. However, I thought I’d describe what we found and the workaround for those following along at home (or found this via google years later).

The issue was a package Yile was installing via conda was pulling in openssl. The package was using this conda-installed openssl but was using system libcrypto. System libcrypto expected the ssl lib to have some options that were not compiled in the conda installed openssl.

The “proper” way to solve this would probably be to have the conda package not install it’s own openssl and instead use the system ones, but this is often easier to say than do. Instead of wrangling with conda, I suggested a workaround.

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib64:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

By changing the order of dynamic library resolution and explicitly adding the system libs first, the package then used system openssl which works with system libcrypto.
