The TRECIS Live Computing and Research Support (LCARS) group is hosting a talk on the Julia programming language for scientific computing.
Title: Julia: A Fresh Take on Scientific Computing
Speaker: John Waczak
Date and time: Thursday, April 14th at 3:00 pm Central Time
Abstract: Julia is a rapidly growing programming language designed from the ground up to address the two language problem: users program in high level languages like Python or R while performant code is developed in Fortran or C. Julia’s unique combination of a fast just-in-time compiler with a fresh multiple-dispatch programming paradigm makes it possible to effortlessly compose disparate code bases while achieving competitive performance. In this talk I will give an overview of the Julia programming language and demonstrate how this rapidly growing ecosystem will help you spend less time compiling so you can spend more time doing science.
Participation in the TRECIS LCARS group is not required to attend the talk. However, we encourage you to join to stay up-to-date on our upcoming events and gain access to our weekly office hours (W, 2-4pm) where you can ask any questions about research computing. To join, visit https://utd.link/trecis-lcars-signup . If you’re already signed up, the talk link and event can be found in the “Talks and Workshops” channel.
